How to Choose the Best Fire Retardant

Fire Retardants – What to Look For Checklist

When looking for a fire retardant, here are a few important points to consider:

  • Most cities, states, and federal agencies require test data from one of the nationally recognized testing laboratories.
  • All Flame Stop® products are tested by one of the nationally accredited third-party testing labratories, such as Underwriters Laboratory, Southwest Research, Intertek, and United States Testing Company.
  • Test reports are available upon request. Most Flame Stop® products are rated for single-coat application – highly desirable from both a practical and economical point of view. National test data for Flame Stop® products is based on single application— either dipped, brushed, or sprayed.
  • Look for products and intumescent chemicals that have low smoke developed indexes (fire fighters agree, smoke causes more deaths than fire).
  • All Flame Stop® products support minimum smoke density generated.
